World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII
Pretend that you live in a big city in Britain in early September 1939. As you are leaving school on Friday afternoon, the teacher gives each person a letter which explains that the evacuation will take place next Wednesday.
Look at the websites listed below, then write about your experiences from the moment you are given the letter.
- The Wartime Memories Project
- The Home Front
- The Imperial War Museum
- The Road to War
- BBCi World War Two
- Scotland during the Second World War
- The Battle of Britain
- Britain at War
- Evacuation during the Second World War
- London, Battersea to Hawkley Hampshire 1939 Evacuees Site
Things to Think About:
- What do you and your friends think about being evacuated?
- What did your parents say when they read the letter.
- Did they choose to keep you at home, or send you to a safe place?
- If you were evacuated.
- What was the journey like?
- Where did you go?
- What was your new family like?
- What new things did you see?
- Did you miss your family?
- If you stayed at home
- What did you think when all your friends were going away?
- How were you educated?
- What did you do in your spare time?
When you have finished your story, perhaps you would like to send in so others can read it.
Please e-mail your story to webquest@wartimememories.co.uk
Don`t forget to include your name, age and the name of your school.
