World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII
We are actively seeking more volunteers to help with this website. If you have a computer and would like to volunteer, please get in touch. There is no need for any specialist web skills, or knowledge of the social history of the two world wars. It will be a great learning experience and it would look great on your CV.
Becoming a volunteer is easy, just get in touch and we will provide you with the necessary information.
How can you help?
- Adding items to the website.
- The Wartime Memories Project receives on average 20 emails per day. Each one has to be read, the contents edited if necessary, any attached photos resized and then added to the approprate page of the site. Then a reply is sent to advise the author where their story is to be found. Currently we have a huge backlog, if you could help, it would be much appreciated.
- Adding items to the pages is simple, a template based web page is used, if you know how to copy and paste text, we can easily show you how to update the pages.
- Helping others with family research.
- There are so many unanswered questions about the personal experiences of both world wars. If you have a particular area of interest, you can help others to find out about the experience of their family members and at the same time increase your own knowledge.
- If you visit any of the archives to undertake research, or are interested in doing so, we have a large list of personal queries on a wide range of war related subjects, from aircraft to ship wrecks to POW camps. We especially need people to visit The National Archives in London. If you could help, please get in touch.
- Recording Stories.
- We are looking for audio and video recordings, we have a volunteers pack with helpful hints, guidelines and questions to ask, please get in touch.
- If you would like to help with the recording of wartime tales, your help would be appreciated.
- If a friend, relative or neighbour has stories to share, we would love to hear them.
- Remember: You will need to be registered with us and have a CRB check before we can authorise you to visit people other than your family and friends. Contact us first
- Activities for Schools.
- Recording oral history is a great way for schools to get involved, the pupils will learn first hand about the war years and gain valuable skills from the experience. Many schools already undertake these activities, why not submit your recordings so they can be preserved in our archive and made available for future generations who will not have the opportunity.
If you are interested in being a volunteer, please complete the form below.
