World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII

Information.

HMS Ramillies, a Revenge Class, was launched on the 12th September 1916 having been built by Wm Beardmore & Company Dalmuir. During the Second World War HMS Ramillies was involved in the bombardment of Bardia, the Battle of Cape Teudada and the bombardment of Diego Saurez (Madagascar), where she was torpedoed by Japanese midget submarine on the 30th May 1942. After repairs she took part in the bombardment of German positions during D-Day between Arrowmanche and Caen, as well as bombardment of Southern France.

The ship was scrapped at Cairn Ryan in 1948. Outside the Imperial War Museum stand two 15-inch guns, one of which is from Ramillies and the other from Resolution.

My father Sydney Atkinson served on HMS Ramillies and I have spent many hours looking for people who might remember him. He was a Marine serving on this ship from about 1939 to 1943 . I would be interested in any information relating to him during this period.

My father-in-law served on this ship from 1941. He was very proud and saw a lot of life sadly he passed away three years ago. Able Seaman John Tovell, we are very proud of him.

B Philp

I am looking for a photo of the crew members of HMS Ramillies during D-Day, or at around that time. My Grandafther Alan Bennett served on this ship in 1944

Thankyou Carmen Beaston
