World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII

Information.

HMS Newcastle was a Southamptonn class cruiser. She was built by Vickers Armstrong on the Tyne and launched 23rd January 1936, the seventh Royal Navy ship to bare the name. She served through out the Second World War in the Home Fleet, Atlantic fleet and the Eastern Fleet.

In 1942, she was torpedoed by German E-Boat S-56 whilst on a supply convoy to Malta, she was repaired in New York before rejoining the fleet.

The Newcastle was scrapped at Faslane, Scotland in 1959.

My father served on HMS Newcastle between 1939-1945, as well as other years. He served in the Royal Navy from 1931 until 1953. His name was Thomas Curry. While serving on the HMS Newcastle he was a stoker petty officer. If anyone remembers my father or any friends, I would love to hear any stories you could pass on. Many thanks,

My father, Able Seaman William Thompson served on HMS Newcastle during WW2. He passed away 1968 Thank you William Thompson jnr.

This picture was taken on board Newcastle during WW2. My father, Joe Cawley is on the back row, far right and served on her from 1939 to 1945.

Mike Cawley

I lost contact with my father 50 years ago. Sadly, he died in 1978 without contact being re-established. His name is Harold Anthony Waldie Rowe. He served on HMS Newcastle (1939-45) as Petty Officer, Ordnance Artificer. If any friend or colleague remembers him I would be so pleased to hear from you.

Many thanks, Valerie.
