World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII

Information.

HMS Macaw was an Royal Naval Air Station at Errol Airfield near Bootle in Cumbria.

Today the site is part of the RAF Millom museum.

I am one of a small group of historians researching the history of Murie Estate in the Carse of Gowrie, Perthshire. In Murie Cemetery, which lies on Murie Estate very close to the village of Errol, are the graves of 9 servicemen killed in WWII. Two were from HMS Jackdaw (Crail), two from HMS Macaw (Errol). We do not know why any of these men were buried in Murie apart from one man who was of a local family and is buried in the family grave. The other graves lie in a line at the southern wall and are the only graves in that particular spot.
