World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII

Information.

HMS Cambridgeshire was built as a trawler in 1935, she was requisitioned by the Royal Navy in 1939 as an anti-submarine vessel. She survived the war became the 'Kingston Sapphire', resuming fishing duties. She was scrapped in 1954.

During the Lancastria incident of June 17th 1940 HMS Cambridgeshire was involved in the rescue of about a thousand men, the Cambridgeshire was a trawler of 443 tons and in August 1939 was requisitioned by the navy and fitted with a 4 inch gun, machine guns and depth chargers as an anti-submarine vessel. She survived the war and in 1945 became the " KINGSTONE SAPPHIRE" and was scrapped in 1954.

My grandfather F.J.Turner (James) was serving on the Cambridgeshire, one of the men he rescued was Lord Inverclyde who on return to England presented the rescuers with a round rosewood box full of cigarettes with a silver plaque on the front engraved with the words"To F.J.Turner RNR HMS Cambridgeshire ST. Nazaire to Plymouth 17th to 19th June 1940 from a grateful passenger Inverclyde/Scots Guards" Who I think was King George VI cousin?

I have been requested by one of my colleagues in HM Coastguard to assist with obtaining any information regarding HMS Cambridgeshire which was involved in the Lancastria Incident in June of 1940 when it was bombed and sunk of St Naziare by German bombers. The vessel helped pick up about a thousand survivors. Any information on the vessel, email images, or details would be most appreciated.
