World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII

Information.

Ure Bank POW Camp No. 247 was situated on the banks of the river Ure at Ripon, North Yorkshire. Boardered on one side by the railway (now disused)and the other by the river.

The site has been used as a caravan park for many years the concrete bases of demolished huts used as hard standing. A large number of the huts survied uncharged until the 1980`s when they were cleared to extend the caravan site. A number of the huts were refurbished and used as a shop, shower blocks and games room.

The huts were situated on the high ground, with the flood plain of the river used for sporting activities. Terracing used for seating can clearly be seen on the steep bank leading down to the site of the pitches
