World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII
Information.
Stalag XVIIIC or 317, was situated at Markt-Pongau, Austria. The area is now known as 'St Johann im Pongau'.
I recently purchased a German WWII Banner. It has 19 P.O.W names and is signed "MARKT PONGAU AUSTRIA 1945". There are 5 New Zealand, 4 Australian and 10 British names. I was just after any information on the camp and the P.O.W's. If you could e-mail any information you have it would be greatly appreciated.
It has recently come to my attention that my father was at Stalag xviiic.
Apparently he had participated in the 1944 Warsaw uprising and had surrendered in October of 1944 and marched off to Pongau
That probably explains his lifelong dislike of mountains.
He did not apparently use his real name and it seems that most ak fighters had falsified papers, he was known as Jan Boguslaw Marcinkowski and/or Boguslaw Marcinkowski
I am trying to find my grandfather who was a Prisoner of War in Stalag XVIIIC. His name is Markovic Vladimira Jelenko, prison number 752, he was born in Jugoslavia 05.02.1907. How can I find some records about him?
