Hi, as a member of the Airfield Research group specialising in WWII Bomber command I had a look through my records. I have a note about a Hampden and also a Wellington. The Hampden is the one noted as 'crashing near the church'. Some more info would help, date or unit? If it was the Hampden, it was probably from 10 OTU, a training outfit at nearby RAF Abingdon.

Hello,I have just read your enquiry regarding a BOMBER CRASH which you think might have been a Wellington. My Father was the sole survivor of a Wellington that crashed near Oxford when returning from an operation. From what he can recollect he was stationed at R.A.F. Benson and part of an O.T.U. The crash occurred in 1941 and he was admitted to the RADCLIFF HOSPITAL Oxford. His name is THOMAS DANIEL DURRANT and he was the Observer/navigator, he is still alive although he is now 86 years of age. I apologise that the info is a bit sketchy but I have only just started to research the subject, however I am sure that as his memory becomes clearer there will be a lot more info forthcoming. Hope this helps for now, Regards DAVID DURRANT.
