no, Comments: My father, Pvt. Kenneth Jones, was a medic in WWII. He was captured and placed in Stalag 7-A. He was highly intelligent and was studying to be a doctor when he was drafted into the war. The German officials over the camp, made my father the "Man of Confidance" over the american soldiers. It was a horrible experience for him, but I had the honors of staying up late hours in the night, listening to his stories about Stalag 7-A. Just before the camp was liberated, he signed a document that claimed that some S.S. officers that were at the camp, were only prison guards. The S.S. was sent to the camp, under orders from Adolf Hitler, to execute all of the P.O.W.s if Germany was to loose the war. If these S.S. officers were captured by the American or British Armies, they would themselves be executed. So, my father, seeing no other solution, signed the document, thus ending any more blood shed at Stalag 7-A. My father received no medals, and not even a "thank you" from anyone for what he did. I guess that's what war is all about. Thanks, Andrew JonesName: Frank Sclafani

No, Comments: I see that no mention is made about the Russian armed forces in the Allied Forces section. This is a great oversight as Russia endured the most during WWII having fought from 1941 to 1945. The US had done almost no fighting until D-Day when the war was basically already going badly for the Axis Forces.Name: malcolm yates

Comments: My father Zivoijin Milutinovic was a POW at Stalag 17 from the first week after WWII began when Yugoslavia surrended in 1941 until 1945 when the U.S. liberated the camp. The Germans used him for his farming skills. He was beaten and suffered greatly when he accidentally spilled milk while milking a cow He escaped twice, but was not killed. He only escaped to tell the German officers in command at the next camp that the POWs were not being treated fairly by certain German officers. They favored my father and quickly shot the officer accused of abusing the POWs at my fathers camp. There are many more stories to tell. He learned 7 plus different languages by ear in the four years he was a POW. He survived by eating black bread (small black insects mixed in with the bread, sometimes broth (rarely) and water. Absurd living conditions. After the war he joined the U.S. Army and stayed in a D.P. camp for 2 more years until they found a home for him. He later went to Ohio and then to California where he married my mother and had 4 children. We are blessed to have had my father share and retell some of his experiences with us about the POW camp. There are many stories he didn't share with us only because they were too painful and tramatic to retell. For more info, please email me.Name: Rachel Andrews

Dad has a photo of the plane flying in this condition with two US fighters in the background. Does anybody have any memories of this. He was based at Bardney with 9 squadron. We are having a gathering of ex-evacuees in Las Vegas this year October 2nd through 6th. If anyone is interested they can contact me. It would be fun to meet more evacuees and to exchange stories and reminiscences. We have folks some coming from Austrailia and the UK too. Anyone out there from Dagenham? Comments: Excellent site. Enjoyed browsing through it. . No 9 Squadron has a soft spot with me although I never served with them. I was a Flight/Mech Engines with 97 Squadron at BOURN and Coningsby. My Sipper at Coningsby came from 54 base but wa I believe Bombing leader on raids to Berlin while he was with 9 Squadron. He was Wing Commander " Ted " Porter DFC and Bar. A Lovely guy and I was proud to work for him on his lancaster. Sadly he was killed in action on August 16th/17th 1944 attacking as Master Bomber the canal areas in Stettin. That night he took a scratch Crew as he had returned from leave a couple of days early. I am pleased to say I am in touch with his original Navigator and Bomb Aimer who both live in Canada. I hope whoever reads this will have a look at us on our Website which is listed above. Best of luck and good wishes Des ex 97 1943/45Name: Lauran

No, Comments: Can anyone help me with any info regarding Thomas William Llewellyn, Born East Stonehouse Devon, 14-5-1913, His Royal Navy number was O.N. CH/X20139. He was a petty officer. He either joined the Royal Navy or he was seconded from the Merchant navy at the start of the war in 1939.He was in the Merchant navy at some stage before the war hence the O.N.at the start of his RN number. He was demobbed in 1946.He died January 20th 1996 in NZ.We know he was in Scapa Flow in 1939 when HMS Royal Oak was sank by a German U Boat, and he was in Portland in 1943-1944 then in Gibralta 1945- 1946,but don't know any of the ships he was on.Ithink they may have been supply ships. He was also torpedoed and spent 17 days in a life boat and washed up somewhere on the coast of Ireland, that was probably around 1940-1942. His mothers' maiden name was Annie Laurie DoveLL.If we can get his records they may say who his father was. Hope i'm not asking too much of you to do this only I coming up against brick walls everytime I try to get information about him.Name: lauren

Then the Italian P.O.W.s came in, they worked on the Farms, the Village was called Newgate Street, I don`t think it is listed anywhere. ColinName: sveta

Comments: My dad Gordon Lambert served in the 6th airborne division royal engineers in the 2nd world war, anyone remember him. Also his brother Aubrey served in the 41st royal tank regiment, he died in North Africa in 1943 and is buried in Tripoli war cemetery. I dedicate this message to both of them.Name: David H Lippman

Comments: Terrific web page indeed. I'm looking forward to going through it. I'll have to include some of my mother's memories of growing up in the Blitz.
