World War 1 One ww1 wwII greatwar great
The Royal Artillery can be traced back to the 16th sixteenth century. On 1 July 1899, the Royal Artillery was divided into two groups: the Royal Horse Artillery and Royal Field Artillery comprised one group, The Royal Garrison Artillery, being the other. In effect the three operated as separate corps until they were amalganated in 1924. The RFA was organised into Brigades, attached to Divisions or higher formations and was responsible for the medium calibre guns and howitzers deployed close to the front line being reasonably mobile.
I have my fathers medals and a picture of him in uniform from the first wold war. He was Sgt Alfred John Hazelden in the Royal Artillery in France. The picture shows his sargents stripes and an emblem just above. I am about to have the medals framed, on the edge of the two round medals is stamped " 18735 - SJT: A J Hazelden R A" On the back of the star medal is stamped "18735 - GNR - A J Hazelden RFA".

These family portraits of other members of my family that also served in the artillery in The Great War. Where they served and who they are is a mystery, but they are all linked to each other through the generations. Any information would be greatly appreciated. My Grandfather served with the Royal Artillery during the Second World War. Read his story
This photo includes my Grandfather Albert Richard Parker who was a Driver in the Royal Field Artillery Regiment.Julie Kelly
This is a picture of my Great Grandfather Sergeant George Uren 27945, who served with the Royal Field Artillery during WW1. "B Bty" 315th Bde. He was killed in action on the 13/09/1917 where he is buried within the Huts Cemetery.
I have no knowledge of the serviceman who is standing to the left of my Great Grandfather, I'd love to know anything about the RFA and anyone who may of known the regiment with whom he served.
