World War 1 One ww1 wwII greatwar great

12th (Service) Battalion The Northumberland Fusiliers was formed at Newcastle in September 1914. They were attached to the 62th Brigade of the 21st Division and embarked for France in September 1915. The division served on the Western Front, their first experience of action being in the British assault at Loos on 26th September 1915, just a few days after arriving in France.

In August 1917 they joined with the 13th battalion to form 12/13th Battalion.

This photo is the only one my family have of my Great uncle Thomas Rudge and his fellow soldiers, sadly we do not know which one is Thomas.

Thomas was Killed at the battle of Loos and died aged just 21 .
