The Wartime Memories Project - The Great War - 77 Squadron.
No. 77 Squadron was formed at Edinburgh on 1st October 1916, as part of the Home Defence against enemy airships, working with the Forth garrison batteries and the Scottish Command in case of enemy landings. They flew BE2c, BE2e, BE12 and BE12B single engine aircraft. 77 Squadron also undertook the training of night-flying pilots for overseas. No. 77 Squadron was disbanded in 1919, reforming just before the outbreak of the Second World War.
