Please note that the content of this website is purely historical in context. Although most material expresses Allied recollections, this is not an intentional bias, we would love to hear from anyone who was involved on the Axis side.
Here are the full details for submitting material to The Wartime Memories Project: Please Do Not use all capital letters in your typing as this means your message will have to be retyped.
If you are contacting us by email: Please put WW2 and the name of the person or unit you are referring to in the subject of your email. Emails sent with blank subject lines are usually deleted by our spam filter and we never recieve them.
Recollections can be submitted via the above form or by email. Please either type your text in the body of the email or send as text file attachments (.doc .rtf .txt ) Please send copies of images by email attachment. Our email address is remember@wartimememories.co.uk
We can also accept submissions by post, in typed written form and copies of photos (please do not send orrigionals incase they get lost in the post)
We have recently started to collect recollections on audio or video tape, CD or DVD. If you would like to record the stories on audio tape we would very much like to add the recording to our achive.
If you have a video camera and would like to submit a video of the telling of the stories please let us know. We can accept VHS, 8mm or MiniDV tapes (either pal or ntfs format) or on video CD or DVD. Video stories will be held in our archive and may be used for future documentary broadcast or shown at exhibitions.
A few tips:
If you are making a video for us, please put your camera on a tripod or solid surface. Get the person telling the story to sit comfortably. Possition the camera at 45 degrees to them, and ask them not to look at the camera, it is best if someone sits to one side of the camera so that they can talk to them, and ignore the camera. Please make sure that there are no distracting items behind the person's head such as pictures on the wall or lamps. If they want to show any items to the camera have them hold them up to the camera rather than zooming in on the object. If you are not sure about anything please ask.
Please Click here to access a form to print out and fill in. Please send it along with your tape or disc
Video submissions will not be added to the website at this stage due to lack of resources, if you would like your stories to be on the website in addition to to be on the website in addition to the video archive, please also send a text version. If you live in the UK we may be able to arrange to have a professional video crew record the telling of wartime stories, the footage will be preserved in our educational archive. Please let me know if you would be interested in taking part.
