World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII
Information.
996th Engineer Treadway Bridge Company arrived in England in March 1944. They landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day and saw action across North West Europe, and built the 972 foot long bridge at Oppenheim Basin to assist the crossing of the Rhine.

My father Edward S. Pharaoh was a Corporal in the 996th Treadway Bridge Division. He passed in 1979 at the age of 62. Is there any way to get information on the 996th? Maybe a list of names or pictures of those who were in the unit. We know his tour of duty was from August 1942 to October 1945. He first went to England in March 1944. He landed first wave at Omaha Beach and was involved with the liberation of a concentration camp sometime during his tour of duty. For years after the war (until their deaths) he received Christmas cards from two of the camp prisoners who he helped. One by the last name of Smyth from Stratford on Avon, England and the other by the last name of McKenzie from Iverness, Scotland. Any information about the 996th and possibly the service of my father would be greatly appreciated.
