310th Infantry Regiment were part of the 78th Infantry Division. The 310th were formed on the 15th of August 1942 and reorganized at Camp Butner, North Carolina.
They saw action on Eurpoe in Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe. The 1st Battalion was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation (Army) for Remagen Bridgehead and The 3rd Battalion for Roer-Rhine Rivers.
The Regiment was inactivated 15 June 1946 in Germany
My grandfather, Clarence M. Keith of Society Hill South Carolina, was a rifleman in the 78th Infantry Division, 310th Infantry Regt, Company G. He was captured at Kesternich Germany on 16 Dec '44. He was imprisoned at Stalag IVB until 15 May '45. He was about 80 lbs (at 6'2") when liberated. He recieved purple heart for wounds suffered 15 Dec '44. Unfortunately he passed away in 1980 and never spoke much about the war. Please list him as a prisoner of Stalag IVB. I would greatly appreciate it. His POW# was 314682. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Purple Heart, WWII Victory Medal, Europe/Africa/Middle East Campaign ribbon and Good Conduct medal. If anyone knows of him or has recollections of him please let me know! Thanks for your effort in this endeavor and god bless!
