World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII

Information.

The 445th Bomb Group were stationed at USAAF #124, Tibenham, situated 13 miles SW of Norwich in Norfolk, UK. The 445th was comprised of 4 bomb squadrons: 700th, 701st, 702nd and 703rd. The 445th BG flew B-24 Liberators between November 1943 and May 1945, flying 282 combat missions, losing over 100 aircraft. On the 27th of Spetember 1944, 28 B-24s were lost out of 37 who took off from Tibenham, the Eighth Airforce's highest day's loss from a single BG.

I have a relative who was in the 445th Bomb Group. He was the right waist gunner on the B-24 "Dixie Dudrop." I understand, the only plane from the Gotha mission to make it back to Tibenham with no injuries. His name is Billie McClennan, or "Mac" as they called him. He was under the command of Jimmie Stewart. His pilot was Lt. Ralph Stimmel.
