Information.

No.431 (Iroquois) Squadron RCAF was formed at Burn in Yorkshire on the 11th Novemeber 1942, flying the Wellington X. Later they flew the Halifax V and the Lancaster X

The Squadron retruned to Canada on the 12th of June 1945

My Uncle Robert J. Hooker flew with the 431 Squadron.

My uncle was the Wireless Operator with the R.W. Harrison crew. The crew were: F/O R.W.Harrison, Sgt F.Samson, F/O A.H.Phillips, F/O G.Dumville, WO1 R.Hooker, F/S J.M.Content, Sgt K.J.Taylor.

My uncle was awarded the George Medal for bravery for saving the lives of two of his crew members after their bomber crashd on takeoff from a base in England.


My uncle returned from the war in 1945 and farmed at Erinferry, Saskatchewan. He also operated the North Star Bulk Plant in the 1950's at a nearby town called Debden where I was raised. In 1959 my uncle moved to British Columbia where he took a job with the Canadian National Railway as a foreman on a Bridge and Building gang and retired with the CNR in 1973. He passed away in 1985 in Kamploops, B.C.
