World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII

The Gordon Highlanders was formed in 1881 when the British Army was reorganised.

Regiments of the Gordon Highlanders during World War Two:

  • 1st Battalion
  • 2nd Battalion
  • 3rd Battalion (Royal Aberdeenshire Highlanders Militia)
  • 4th (The City of Aberdeen) Battalion
  • 5th (Strathbogie, Garioch and Strathdon) Battalion
  • 5th/7th (Buchan, Mar and Means) Battalion
  • 5th/9th (Strathbogie, Garioch and Strathdon) Battalion
  • 6th (The Banff and Donside) Battalion
  • 7th (Mar and Mearns) Battalion
  • 8th (The City of Aberdeen) Battalion
  • 9th (Donside) Battalion
  • 10th (Home Defence) Battalion
  • 11th Battalion
  • 30th Battalion
  • 50th (Holding) Battalion
  • No. 1 (Shetland) Independent Company
  • No. 2 Independent Company
  • No. 3 Independent Company


I would be most greatful if any body has info about my Grandad, he served with the Gordon Highlanders his name was John Burke from Newcastle upon Tyne
