World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII
Information.
The Saskatoon Light Infantry (M.G.) was mobilised with the C.A.S.F on the 1st of Sept 1939, embarking for the United Kingdom on 8 Dec 1939. They took part in the Sicily Landings on the 13th of July 1943, as part of the 1st Canadian Infantry Division. On 3 Sep 1943 they landed in Italy then moved to North-West Europe on 4 Mar 1945, being disbanded on the 15 Oct 1945. Except three cannon companies which had joined the Canadian Army Pacific Force, on the 1st of June 1945, who were disbanded on the 1st of November 1945.
My dad Gordon William Kelly served with the Saskatoon Light Infantry (M.G.). I am doing a genealogy of my dad in World War II. How do I get more info?
Private Gordon William Kelly; Date of Appointment: 17 Feb 1943 Regina, SASK; Date of Honorable Discharge: Nov 9 1945; Medals & Decorations: 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and War Metal 1939-45
I would really like to get a copy of his enrollment and a picture of his unit with him in it. He passed on now Feb 2000. But I'am doing a little research on him about the war and wanted it for my children but this is like ring around the roses on the net. He would never talk about the war, so I never pushed.
