My father served at Skipton on Swale during the latter years of the war. His name was Flt.Lt Morgan Brock. I believe he was in "Intelligence", but had occasion to be called up for flight duty (front gunner, if I recall correctly). I do have some pictures,.. but sadly have probably thrown many out. I do have a leather vest (child size) that one of his buddies sewed and painted. The two vest pockets are decorated with "424 - Tiger Squadron" and 433 Porcupine Squadron" -with the appropriate animal features on each. The upper pocket has a character, with "Intelligence ?" on it.

Sergeant Stewart James Olson Robinson (RCAF) was stationed at Skipton-on-Swale in 1945. Robinson was an upper-mid gunner in Lancaster RF150, QB-W for Willie, piloted by another Canadian, Joseph Watson. Returning from a bombing raid on April 5th, 1945, the aircraft went down outside of High Wycombe near the village of Lane End while attempting an emergency landing at Booker Airfield. All aboard were killed on impact.

Update. The crew were with 424 Squadron:

  • F/O J.W.Watson
  • P/O E.T.Ashdown
  • F/O J.Rochford
  • P/O C.N.Armstrong
  • P/O S.McL Thomson
  • P/O S.J.O.Robinson
  • P/O C.K.Howes

I'm looking for any photos taken at Skipton on Swale North yorkshire, The date I'm interested in is 25.8.43 and the man concerned is Sgnt William Mayo who was a bomb aimer with 432 Sqaudren RCAF. On the 16.11.43 he was killed in a training crash over Lincolnshire in a Lancaster from Eastmoor. it would be great if you could help.

Many Thanks, Andrew Davies
