World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII
Information.
RAF North Killingholme opened at the end of 1943 home to 550 Squadron. Flying Lancaster bombers, three of the aircraft had the distinction of completing more than 100 operations each. In the autumn of 1945 the Squadron disbanded and the airfield closed.

My Father, Charles Bruce and his crewmates standing in front of ED905 (Press on Regardless) call sign 'F' Freddie.
Here is a list of the crew my father served with at North Killingholme. The names read from left to right as per the photograph:
As far as I know the only member still alive is Roy Harris who lives in Arizona. He and my father were re-united 2 years before my father died in 2003. I am in touch with Roy and he comes over here to visit relatives when he can. He is now 81.
- Roy (Ginger) Harris, Navigator;
- 'Buck' Buckingham, Mid Upper Gunner;
- Selwyn Gartland, Bomb Aimer/Front Gunner;
- David 'Jock' Shaw, Pilot;
- Charles 'Chic' Bruce, Flight Engineer;
- Alf LLanwarne, Wireless Operator;
- Eric Griffiths, Rear Gunner .
There is an incident in Johnny Johnstone's book 'Wing Leader' in which this crew and plane were involved. If you have a copy of this book pages 246 to 248 describes it (If not I can post you photocopies of the pages concerned). My father commissioned a painting of this event by a local Hull artist a few years before he died.
When the above crew finshed their tour of 30 ops the pilot Jock Shaw continued flying and in fact flew ED905 on her 100th mission (with another crew).
I'm looking for information about Lancaster PD-221 BQ-R of 550th. It came down on febr. 3rd 1945 in a small town (Westerbeek) near the village I live in (Holland). Crew sadly KIA. Do you have any information about that particular plane ? Hans Ooms The Netherlands

My father was Alfred Horace Clothier who was a tail gunner in a Lancaster. I am not sure which squadron he served in (possibly 49 sdn?) but his aircraft was coded named BQ N (I think) and he spent time at North Killingholme. He finished the war in the Australian 467th squadron but flew no missions with that squadron.
Can anyone help out in identifying the squadron and perhaps his crew? It would mean a lot to us as Dad never talked about his experiences and when he died in 1989, all we found were these old photos. It has turned into quite a detective story for our family.
Much Thanks Michael Clothier
