World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII

Information.

RAF Mildenhall situated in Suffolk was Headquarters No 3 Group, RAF Bomber Command.

Today the base is still in use, home to the USAAF.

Squadrons stationed at RAF Mildenhall

I am trying to trace my fathers record of flying during ww2, He began at mildenhall in 1940, I believe and then it was realocated to Croft. His name was Sgt Pilot Albert Thomas Davies. I think he crashed at ely cambs sometime between jan 1943 -1944 .

On 29 August 2006 the Veterans Ass. of HAALTERT-BELGIUM would like to inaugurate a granite commemorate plaque at MOERBEKE-WAAS Belgium at the KRUIS-street that will remember the crash of WELLINGTON-bomber on 29 August 1942 (base MILDENHALL/ target NURENBERG) from the Sidney Bernard Davis and Charles Henry Vickers crew. For this 64 th. anniversary we would like to come in contact with the family of the crew.

I am seeking any further information about my uncle, George Nelson (412476 Sergeant (Obs) George Nelson (RNZAF)) who died while serving in the R.A.F during WW11.

It seems their target was Krefeld (Germany) on the night of 02-03/10/1942, they were in a Wellington bomber Serial number BK271/Op or BK271/A and took off from Mildenhall at 18.45. Their aircraft was supposedly brought down southwest of the target area near Dusseldorf. Other crew members who died were:

  • Pilot Sgt ADSETT Frederick Charles R/92747 RCAF
  • Pilot 2 Sgt JONES Rex Nigel Hugh 411217 RNZAF
  • W/AG Sgt MARTIN George Wilfred 405302 RNZAF
  • W/AG Sgt TURVEY Keneth Tempest 925966

I would like to talk to anyone who knew him or his fellow flyers, or have photos, records or any documentation relating to any of the above. Many thanks.
