World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII

Information.

RAF Kinloss opened on the 1st of April 1939 home to 14 Flying Training School (FTS) and 45 Maintenance Unit, and from July 1940 19 Operational Training Unit .

Today Kinloss is still an operational airfield with the RAF, best known for its Search and Rescue role.

Squadrons stationed at RAF Kinloss

  • 14 Flying Training School (FTS)
  • 45 Maintenance Unit.
  • 19 Operational Training Unit
  • 77 Squadron 15 April 1940 to 4th May 1940
  • No. 90 Squadron

I am trying to find out any information for the relatives of Sgt. Cecil Spencer George DFM, RAF, Pilot Instructor 19 OTU, RAF, Kinloss. He was killed on the 6th of January 1942 when the Whitley Mk 5 N1498 flew into Carn a Choire Mhoir, near Tomatin, during an evening training flight. If you have any information regarding Sgt. George, other crew members, or indeed about the accident itself or the site, we would be most appreciative.
