Information.

Gosfield was one of the largest stations in Essex covering some four square miles and had accommodation for 3,200. The airfield opened in December 1943, the very next day, the airfield suffered a heavy bombardment.

The first occupants were the P-47s of the Ninth Fighter Group which were used as escorts for B-17s. Later The 410th Bomb Group arrived with their Douglas A-20 Havocs. RAF Stirlings spent a short while here and the last occupants were C-47s and Horsa gliders that took part in Operation Varsity.
