World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII

Information.

RAF Earls Colne opened in August 1942, as a 3 Group Bomber Command Station. The base was transferred to 9th USAAF command May 1943 then returned to the RAF in September 1944 as part of 38 Group Transport Command, Group Headquaters was at nearby Marks Hall. No. 296 and No. 297 Sqns flew Albermarle and Halifax aircraft from Earls Colne until April 1946 when the Station closed.

Today the site houses Earls Colne Business Park. The control tower was used as a private house for some years but is now in ruins.
