World War 2 Two II WW2 WWII

Information.

The first occupants were 29 OTU with Wellingtons of No 92 Group. Bruntingthorpe was a satellite to North Luffenham. The base was used for testing Meteors in 1945 before being placed on Care and Maintenance from 1945 until January 1957 when it was transferred to USAF Command as a satellite to USAF at Alconbury. The station closed when the USAF left in 1962.

Today Many of the original wartime buildings remain in use as an industrial estate, including hangars, runways. The runways and perimeter track are used for vehicle testing.

According to Australian War Memorial records my great uncle Flt. Sgt. Bruce Thomas DEVALL was killed at Bruntingthorpe on 17.1.45 whilst serving with 29 OTU.

I am very interested in the nature of his service at the time of his death or if anyone could shed some light on how he may have died?

James MacLachlan
